Adam Bond’s sudden and dramatic departure from the Board of Selectmen Monday night was a shame in many ways. Since he and his wife Victoria moved to Middleboro a few years ago Mr. Bond has been deeply involved — in light of recent events one might say too deeply involved — in town government. He has served as a selectman for the past five years and has also represented the board, along with his wife and daughter, at numerous local functions. It’s a shame to lose a volunteer official who has devoted so much time and energy to the community. It’s also a shame that the reason for Mr. Bond’s abrupt resignation Monday night — the agreement with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe — has been allowed to dominate selectmen’s meetings for so much of the past several weeks in particular.
