Despite the local aid cuts announced by Gov. Patrick Deval last week, the town should be able to make the end of the current fiscal year without layoffs or service cuts, Town Manager Charles Cristello told the selectmen Monday night. “The good news is it could be worse,” Mr. Cristello said of the estimated $350,000 Middleboro stands to lose as the state tries to address a steep drop in revenue as a result of the worsening statewide economy. But for the fiscal year that begins July 1 Middleboro’s projected deficit of over $3 million could grow by as much as $1 million if cuts in aid to cities and towns approach the $375 million that is currently being discussed.
