Selectmen have voted unanimously to maintain trash fees at $216 a year, even though figures released this week show a surplus of about $100,000 was collected in each of the last two years. Town Manager Charles J. Cristello presented selectmen with a financial analysis Monday night of fiscal year 2008 trash fees that showed annual expenses at $999,851 and revenue at $1,107,724, leaving a surplus of $107,873. Of the 7,000 residential homes in Middleboro, Cristello estimated that 4,600, or 67 percent, participate in trash collection. Some residents prefer to use a sticker system and not pay the quarterly fee of $54. Click here to read the rest of the article on EnterpriseNews.com. (Brockton Enterprise, February 26, 2009)
