As someone who lives in the Everett Square area, I think this is an awesome idea. My only caveat is that I would not want to see cars or trucks stored on this site, but simply make the site the home of police and DPW administrative offices.

The DPW and Police Station Building study committees are both eyeing the former St. Lukes Hospital in downtown Middleboro as possible sites for a police station and department of public works. Police Chief Gary Russell said the plans for a new police station have been put on hold due to the fiscal restraints of the town.

It would cost the town about $1 million to purchase the St. Lukes site, Russell estimated. The former hospital is on 3.5 acres at the intersection of Center and Oak streets. Russell said in 2004, the committee chose town-owned land on Wood Street for the police station, which is adjacent to the John T. Nichols Jr. Middle School. However, the $154,000 for architectural and engineering services along with the $6.827 million construction price tag make the project seem not feasible. Russell said he prefers the St. Lukes site because its close to downtown. The committee did not recommend combining the police station and the DPW in one building due to the confidential nature of police work. (WickedLocal.com, March 18, 2009)
