I’m very disappointed that there was no news about this event, or others like it. There has to be a way to get the word out about these types of gatherings – whether they’re formal or informal – so that interested parties in Middleboro can try and attend. It’s too bad that I had to read about this after the fact.
A selectman held a public meeting. A casino was on the agenda. Six people showed up. Granted, the hour was 8 a.m., but the scene at Middleboro Town Hall on Thursday was markedly different from the weekly events two summers ago that featured standing-room-only crowds. Instead of talking about the riches to come from a Mashpee Wampanoag gambling mecca, or the detrimental effect it could have, Selectman Stephen McKinnon fielded questions about attracting new business and ramping up the local transportation. More than two years after tribe leaders first turned to their community, Middleboro officials, and residents, are thinking about Plan B. There’s still no casino, and there may never be one.
