In a move to raise additional revenue, a town official wants the local tax on hotel rooms increased by 50 percent. Town Manager Charles J. Cristello recommended selectmen ask town meeting to raise the tax from the current 4 percent to 6 percent, as allowed under the new state budget. Cristello estimates the increase will bring in an additional $84,000. Selectmen took the matter under advisement and will discuss it at their next meeting on Aug. 10. Middleboro has three major hotels: the Fairfield Inn at 4 Chalet Road, the Holiday Inn at 43 Harding St., and the Days Inn at 30 East Clark St.
