The public library will apply for a waiver from the state Board of Library Commissioners to maintain its certification, which is in question due to the most recent round of townwide budget cuts, Library Director Danielle Bowker told selectmen this week. In August, the town asked each department to cut its budgets by 1.5 percent after learning the town was facing a $1.6 million deficit in the current fiscal year.

Bowker presented selectmen with a copy of the library’s five-year plan and the results of a customer survey available on its Web site, www.midlib.org. More than 500 people responded to the survey and expressed overall satisfaction with the library. A majority, 400 responders, said the overall atmosphere was one of the things they liked best about the library. Of those who responded to the survey, 97 percent have library cards and are frequent users, with 27 percent visiting weekly and 31 percent monthly.
