The town has received a development designation from the state that local officials hope will help to attract businesses to the Middleborough Park at 495 office/industrial park near the rotary circle.

In the spring, town meeting voters adopted Chapter 43D, the state law that established an economic development and planning program to assist communities that agree to permit development in designated economic development areas through a streamlined process. The voters designated Middleborough Park at 495 as a development area, and the state Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development has now approved the designation, Community Development Director Anna Nalevanko said this week.

Nalevanko said the state will now assist the town in marketing the industrial park whose current tenants include Brookfield Engineering and Cirelli Foods. There is about 700,000-square-feet of development space left in the park.
