Campaigns advocating tax-limit overrides for operational budgets are expected to be few and far between this year, just as they have been for the last two years. But one that has started early is a $2.4 million proposal in Middleborough to help fund local schools. A new group called Yes4MiddleboroSchools plans to vigorously promote the requested tax increase over the next three months. The proposal will be on the April 3 annual election ballot, and so far it is the only operational budget override to surface statewide. Passage would add $320 to the average yearly property tax bill in Middleborough. Without the cash infusion, school officials warn, services to local children will suffer.
