Fifteen homeowners in Middleboro and another five in Lakeville could receive zero-interest loans through a housing rehabilitation program that would be a major piece of the state grant the towns are applying for jointly, Community Development Director Anna Nalevanko told the selectmen Monday night. The selectmen in both towns voted Monday night to apply for a Community Development Block Grant of up to $1 million to offer the housing loan program as well as an emergency housing program. Ms. Nalevanko said eligible homeowners would be able to borrow money for home improvements. There would be no interest payments on the loans and payments on the principal could be deferred or even forgiven in cases of severe hardship.
