The Green Energy Fair will be a great place to learn about alternative energy generation. The Fair will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Grand Ballroom of the Middleboro Town Hall from 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon. How practical is a wind turbine to generate electricity here in Middleboro? Do solar panels “pay” in these days of expensive energy? How about solar hot water and the latest on heat pumps?
The Middleboro Gas and Electric has the first large scale photovoltaic system in town. The panels are mounted on the garage near the Electric Division’s Wareham Street office. On a good sunny day, they generate a significant amount of the electric power needed by the office building. Recently, the MG&E has adopted “net metering” that lets solar panels feed energy through a customer’s meter, making it run backwards, saving on the electric bill.
