The town’s technology manager is continuing to stick up for financial software that is more than 20 years old, saying it suits the town’s needs even as a special committee works to improve what consultants have branded a staggeringly outdated technology system in town.

Roger Brunelle Sr., the town’s information-technology director and a member of the special committee, has defended the use of the software, which at least one committee member said has not been updated since the 1980s. A consultant, Sheldon Cohen, told town leaders previously that the town’s software is a liability.
