Three Barnes and Noble e-book readers, more commonly known as Nooks, will be coming soon to the Middleboro Public Library. They will be available for patrons to try out in the library during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Starting January 3, 2011 patrons (ages 18 and older) will be able to check out one of two Nooks for a two-week loan period, and read one of the many best-sellers pre-loaded onto the device. One Nook also will be available for patrons to use at the library to read daily editions of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

To ease checkout time for patrons, the library also announces the installation of a “self-checkout” station on the main floor. Patrons with a fine-free card can use the new self-service machine to check out books and adult CDs. Anyone picking up a reserve or a media item normally kept at the main desk (DVDs and YA CDs) will still require the assistance of the library staff at the adult circulation desk.
