Middleboro’s election season is ramping up and soon will be in full swing. As a marketing/communications professional, however, one candidate stands out from the rest of the pack.

Allin Frawley, Candidate for Middleboro's Board of Selectmen

Allin Frawley has launched his campaign for Board of Selectmen with – GASP! – a website. A really nice website, at that. It tells you who he is and what he stands for. It even has a picture of him, so if you see him around town, you can stop and talk to him. What a concept.

Along with the informative website that will allow registered voters to make an informed decision in April, Allin has done something else as well…

He’s reaching out to the community and holding a “Meet and Greet” with the public on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Ack! A political figure who is taking the time to meet with his potential constituents? In Middleboro? He’s a brave, brave man.

Along with his website, Allin has launched a new Facebook page – Allin Frawley for Selectman. If you are on Facebook, this will be a great way to connect with Allin and find out more about him and where he stands on various issues. Everyone should go and “like” his page today. For those of you who prefer Twitter (and honestly, who doesn’t; Twitter is fantastic), Allin also has a Twitter stream going.

A quick search of Google to see if the other Board of Selectmen candidates have done any kind of modern day communications about themselves or their campaigns comes up empty. Oddly, even Ben Quelle, who had a website when he was running for State Representative, is silent in the online world. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not seeing anything out there about any other candidate.

Kudos to Allin for reaching out in a variety of online – and offline – channels and talking to the people he will be representing if he gets elected on April 2, 2011. My one hope is that if he makes it to the Board of Selectmen, his website morphs into an ongoing conversation and communication channel for all of us. That would be transparency in local government in action and would herald a new, enlightened dawn for all of us in Middleboro.
