Updated March 21, 2011: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has rejected the town’s request for a traffic light at Clark Street East and Route 105, but has agreed to perform some road work to ease congestion there.
Cristello, who met with the MassHighway commissioner on Monday (2009) along with local state representatives and Sen. Marc R. Pacheco, said final design plans are being prepared and he is hopeful the lights will be installed.
Most accidents in that section of Route 105 occur from traffic exiting McDonald’s and the Days Inn from Clark Street East, said Cristello, adding he has been working on the project since he became town manager.
The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) in its I-495 Corridor Study also identified safety issues and recommended improvements.
Cristello asked Roland J. Hebert, director of transportation for SRPEDD, to submit a letter to MassHighway in support of the Clark Street East signal. MassHighway estimated the cost of the project in 2007 at $875,500. SRPEDD estimated the cost at $1.1 million.
