Middleboro is getting a new ambulance service in July 2011 and the owners have promised to open a new business in Middleboro. The Board of Selectmen unanimously supported the recommendation of the Emergency Medical Services Committee to hire Brewster Ambulance Service of Boston at a cost of $675,000 for three years.
The town currently pays American Medical Response of Massachusetts Inc. $250,000 a year for a dedicated ambulance, with a backup ambulance arriving within five minutes. That contract expires in June, and Brewster will provide the same level of service.
Brewster has also promised to provide five EMT scholarships to high school students, a defibrillator and training, free CPR classes four times a year and free first-responder training to police and fire personnel.
