In celebration of Arbor Day, Department of Public Works Superintendent Andrew Bagas announced there will be free tree seedlings available for Middleboro residents. This year’s program will feature Kousa dogwood trees.

Kousa dogwood is a small flowering tree that can grow to a height of 30 feet. It has white blossoms in the spring. In the fall the tree bears raspberry-like fruit that is attractive to birds. The tree seedlings will be available at the DPW, 48 Wareham Street on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 9 a.m. Quantities are limited, so the seedlings will be available only as long as supplies last. Planting and care instructions will be provided.

Residents are requested to plant the seedlings on their property in a location where they are visible from the road.
