The Middleboro Health Department is set to receive a $30,000 grant to help in the planning of a regional health district that will enable 13 area towns to share resources and improve services. The grant will partially pay for a consultant to develop a plan by late summer for the Southeast Regional Health District. Other communities that have shown interest in joining that effort include Abington, Bridgewater, Duxbury, Halifax, Lakeville, Marion, Mattapoisett, Raynham, Plympton, Rochester, Rockland and Wareham.

The group aims to improve their response to several health issues including obesity intervention, tobacco cessation, hoarding intervention, tattoo-shop inspection and disaster planning.

Middleboro was one of 11 towns to receive the Public Health Incentive Planning Grant from the state Department of Public Health. The consultant’s plan would enable Middleboro to apply for a five-year grant to implement the program.
