Eileen Gates, Middleboro's Town Clerk
Eileen S. Gates is Middleboro’s public-records officer, burial agent, parking clerk and town liaison to the state for the federal census. She oversees elections, town meetings, swears in new officials and is the keeper of the town seal. And after 40 years in the town’s employ, including seven as Middleboro’s first-ever full-time town clerk, she will retire on July 1, 2011. The rest of the story can be found on EnterpriseNews.com…
Few people realize just how important the role of town clerk is. I have dealt with Ms. Gates on a variety of occasions and she has always been helpful, professional and competent. I especially appreciated her efforts to keep the town clerk office open late one night a month so that people who can’t get there during the day can go after work and conduct their business.
I hope the new town clerk continues that tradition and keeps the town clerk’s office moving forward into the future…
