Stop & Shop supermarket in Middleboro will be closing at the end of July 2011.The company announced Monday that it would not renew its lease at the West Grove Street plaza. Stop & Shop spokeswoman Suzi Robinson said the company was not comfortable with the terms of the lease. She said Stop & Shop is exploring options for its Middleboro customers, but declined to say where. (Source: The Enterprise, May 11, 2011)

While I’m not a fan of Stop & Shop, I do think that it’s too bad that another business is closing in Middleboro. This being said, I think it would be GREAT if Market Basket skipped over opening a store in Wareham and opened up a new store in the Stop & Shop location. This is purely selfish on my part as I really don’t want to continue driving to New Bedford to shop at Market Basket.
