Allison Ferreira, who has worked as the assistant to Middleboro’s town manager for the past five years, will begin her new job as town clerk on July 1, 2011. Ferreira was appointed by unanimous vote of the selectmen and will replace Eileen Gates, who retires June 30, 2011 after seven years as clerk and some 40 years in the town’s employ.

The town clerk is responsible for conducting the town elections and the annual census, registration of new voters, overseeing the receipt, recording and maintenance of all public records, supervises the issuance of a variety of licenses, permits and certificates. The town clerk supervises one full-time and one part-time clerk and works under the administrative direction of the town manager.
