Precincts 2 and 4 in Middleboro get out to the high school today and VOTE!

The race to represent the 12th Bristol District in the Massachusetts House is now a two-person contest, with Republican Keiko Orral and Democrat Roger Brunelle Jr. emerging from Tuesday’s special primary elections. Brunelle and Orral will meet September 20, 2011 in the special general election to replace former state Rep. Stephen Canessa. A New Bedford Democrat, Canessa resigned from office in June to accept a job as director of government affairs for Southcoast Health System, leaving the House seat vacant.

Let’s make the turnout for the election better than the voter turnout for the primary. The percentage of eligible voters who cast ballots in the special primary are pathetic:

  • Lakeville: 20 percent
  • Taunton: 4.8 percent
  • Freetown: 12.6 percent
  • Middleboro: 7.6 percent
  • New Bedford: 8.2 percent
