Middleboro Hopes To Save $1 Million By Switching Healthcare Providers…

The town hopes to save $1 million by switching its health care coverage to the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association next July. Selectmen Chairman Patrick Rogers said the potential savings of $1 million will help offset the $3 million budget deficit projected for next year.
MIIA was formed in 1992 to provide insurance coverage to municipalities and other government units, said Town Manager Charles J. Cristello. He said the size of the MIIA “allows them to better stabilize fluctuations in rates.” Cristello said the MIIA is also a good match for the town because it only offers Blue Cross, the only insurance offered to town employees.
Currently, the town receives its health insurance coverage through the Southeastern Massachusetts Health Care Group. Cristello said town employees may continue their current plan or switch to a less expensive plan offered by MIIA.
